Hiya, Everyone! It’s amazing how fragile life is and how it can change in a blink of an eye.
On Tuesday Morning, I was all set to begin my exercises, which include some arm weights. Well, everything halted when I accidentally dropped my 10lb weight on my foot!
At first, I thought I had only nicked the tips of my toes, so I didn’t think I had done that much damage. Sure, two of my toes started to darken, but I thought it was normal for it to bruise and I just iced it.
But when the pain and color got worse, I decided to go to the doctor.
Set aside the fact that I'm in DESPERATE need of a pedicure, but can you believe the other tragedy in these pics? After getting X-rays, my doctor informed me I had two fractured toes!
But that wasn’t the worst part of the news. My doctor told me I had to stay off my feet for six weeks until my toes healed, limit my walking, and absolutely no running.
I was floored! How could this be? The majority of my workouts are cardio based in which I walk and run! I was starting to spiral into a panic – I mean what in the world was I going to do if I couldn’t walk or run for exercise?
I voiced my concerns to my doctor and he shrugged his shoulders. He told me I could bike or swim since those two activities wouldn’t impair my toes’ healing process, but he was somewhat surprised I was so willing to remain active. He stated that in his experience, people tended to listen more readily to advice to stay put rather than to exercise.
Well, I for one was determined not to let my motivation train get derailed, especially since there was an easy fix to my problem. Since I don’t know how to swim, and I wasn’t about to start to, I opted for my doctor’s first suggestion.
After going to the pharmacy and getting my prescriptions which involved some Ibuprofin and an orthopedic shoe which I have to wear for six weeks, my hubby took me straight to Walmart.
I hobbled around the store, and went straight to the exercise department. Searching through their selection, I found the perfect machine! A Weslo Bike/Elliptical machine.
It took hubby some time, but he put in every single bolt and screw in place, and I had my new exercise equipment!
The best part about it, is that the bike and the elliptical both register Fitbit steps when I’m on it! Yay! I was so excited and I feel incredibly blessed I can still function enough to exercise.
I guess it’s true what they say: When something’s important to you, then you find a way. When it’s not, you find an excuse.
What about you? Have you had any challenges this week? Tell me about it!
Hi Julie, sorry to hear of your accident Im afirm believer things happen for a reason. Take care England
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anon! I'm totally right with you - and that reason was that I needed to buy a bike/elliptical machine! LOL Good Heavens, I had no clue I was hiding some serious muscles in my thighs and now I'm all sore in places I didn't even know existed, since I've never worked out on an Elliptical before. I'm definitely looking forward to how my body will tone up now! I even lost weight this week! Woot! I feel so blessed. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting :)
