Weight Watchers: Working the Plan on the Road and at Whataburger!

In June of this year, I’m all set to celebrate three years with Weight Watchers! I’ve had a lot of ups and downs, but I kept strong through it all – except when it came time to travel.

For some reason, I ALWAYS used road trips as an excuse to go off plan. But as I neared my Weight Watchaversary, I knew I had to tackle this head on and stop this cycle.

So when hubby said he wanted to do a fishing trip, I went right into prep mode!

First, I knew I was going to need snacks to munch on, and then I knew I had to plan for what we were going to eat for dinner that night.

All together in my Rachael Ray lunch bag (from Walmart), I gathered some of my fave munching snacks:

  • Starkist Tuna (Zero SmartPoints for 1 pouch)
  • 2 Jack Link’s Beef Steaks
    (1 SmartPoint for two packages)
  • Snapea Crisps (9 pieces for 1 SmartPoint)

– a total of 2 SmartPoints for all these snacks.

Plus, I packed my fave fruits in my cooler, along with my water.

Hubby was rushing me along, so I didn’t have time to snap a pic of me also packing a salad into my cooler with my very convenient Weight Watchers Collapsible Bowl featured in the 2016 Starter Kit, along with my dinner drink staple, Oceanspray’s Diet Cranberry Juice (Zero SmartPoints for 8 oz).

So, for breakfast I had my 8 Points Breakfast (I just switched to Weight Watchers Creamers for Zero SmartPoints, which brought my breakfast down a point).

On the road trip, I munched on my fruit, beef steaks, and my crisps. That all held me over until it was time for dinner. I was all set to go to Subway, but imagine my surprise when I realized it was already closed!!!

The only place open at the time we went for dinner was a Texas staple – Whataburger. I used to love eating there before I joined Weight Watchers, but I soon realized the points just weren’t worth it to me.

So what was I to do? I quickly checked my Weight Watchers database on my phone and found that Whataburgers’ Grilled Chicken Sandwich was 12 SmartPoints (plain). Thankful I had my salad with me, I ordered it with mustard on the side (Zero SmartPoints) and enjoyed dinner with my family.

To my salad, I added my pouch of Tuna for Zero SmartPoints, and some Wishbone Fat Free Italian salad dressing, 4 Tablespoons for 1 SmartPoint, along with my juice.

It was super delicious and so filling. But more importantly, I still had points left over in the day. I couldn’t believe that finally for the first time ever - I stayed on track during a road trip and I didn’t go off plan. Yay! Go me!

What about you? Is there a recent road trip you’ve taken where you stayed on track? Tell me about it!

  3. I just tackled two spring breaks with my daughters, one daughter each trip. One to Amelia Island, FL and one to Charleston, SC. I took one meal at a time and tried to make the best choices at each meal, hamburgers without the bun and veggies for sides, etc. Sometimes I would order a kid's meal. The first trip I gained a little bit but lost it and more the following week, and the last trip I came back and lost 2.4 pounds. I drove both times and brought healthy snacks for the car. I felt very empowered and proud of myself.
