Hello, Everyone!
Thanks so much for joining me here on my WW journey! Let me run through a few plan basics and what happened when I joined.
When I first walked into WW and decided to join, I filled out some paperwork with my personal information and my weight was taken to establish a starting weight. From there, I decided to attend meetings, (sorry! I don’t have a clue what happens when you join online) and I was given my daily points allowance – or the points value of what I was allowed to eat per day in order to lose weight.
I was given a starting kit, and they vary from time to time, depending what promotion WW is doing. When I joined in June 2013, I got a cool tote and lots of books preparing me for the coming summer. Plus, I got the Welcome Kit which was full of great plan information and coupons, along with a points calculator, and a WW measuring tape.
I was then seated at the meeting where I sat back and relaxed, listening to everyone talking about the weekly topic (about 30 min or so). The leader conducted the meeting and she gave out some great insight and motivation and members also participated, recapping their past week and anything that helped or hindered them. Everyone had tips to share, so it was very helpful and inspiring to listen in.
After the meeting, I was asked to stay behind. The leader met with me and the rest of the new members, and we got a one-on-one with her about the plan basics and how to start. It was so beneficial and a definite thing not to miss! After that, I was ready to go!
As my week started, I learned that all foods are given a points plus value by WW based on their nutritional values. I then had to track the points of the foods I was consuming. When you track, you’re essentially subtracting what you’re eating from the daily points allowance you were given when you were first weighed. (Plus, you’re given 49 extra points each week to use in case there’s an unexpected event, such as a dinner, a last minute party invite, etc. These really are lifesavers.)
Tracking can be done by using WW’s awesome phone app, or their computer database to figure out a food’s point value. The great thing with the phone app is you can scan a product’s UPC and it will more than likely appear on WW’s database with the points value (pictured on left). If it’s not on the database, you can enter the nutritional information manually and you’ll get the points value that way (pictured on right).
The same goes for restaurants. WW has an extensive list.
So, you can track online, on your phone, or you can go the old tried and true route and track by hand with WW’s calculator once you figure out the points value. WW also sells tracking books, or you can make one of your own.
Just like anything you’re not used to doing, tracking takes some getting used to and it sometimes got tedious to me, but when I realized how imperative of a tool it is for my weight loss, I powered on through and always made it a habit to track, track, track!
Going once a week to the WW meetings has been crucial to my weight loss success. For me, it’s all about the accountability and the friendships I’ve created with amazing people on the same journey I’m on, and who are there to help me every step of the way.
WW usually has different leaders and several days/times to accommodate any schedule. For me, Monday evenings with my leader, Marie were the best fit.
But don’t think that the only thing to WW is just about the points! WW also centers around the Good Health Guidelines (below). This is why I fell in love with WW – it’s not a diet at all, but a lifestyle change. Being on WW has educated and empowered me to make better, healthier food choices.
WW also gave me some guidelines on how to earn activity points I could swap for food, depending on the type of exercise I had done that day. I found it to be an amazing and easy to follow plan which completely changed my life. I feel so blessed to have walked into my WW center almost two years ago. Thank you, Weight Watchers for changing my life for the better.
Did I cover everything? I hope so. I can’t say enough about this amazing program and just how easy and simple it is. The toughest part about the program is having the discipline to track everything you eat. Sometimes we forget, “guesstimate,” or mess up one day and decide we just can’t do it anymore.
But Rome wasn’t built in a day, and all the bad habits we’ve acquired will take some time to change. You just have to trust in the program and keep going! You’ll see the results if you stick to the plan.
Right now, WW is running a great promotion that I wish was up when I joined. Click here for more details on their Lose 10 Pounds On Us promotion. weightwtch.rs/tenonus (Not an affiliated link). The promotion ends on June 1, 2015.
Hope I gave you a good overview on the basics. Let me know if you have any questions; I’ll try my best to answer.
Sorry if the posting isn’t as regular as I wish it would be. I’m still trying to get things together and I can’t wait to start filming some videos filled with great tips and yummy recipes. All that’s coming soon!
Thanks again for joining me on my WW journey!
Until next time :)
