Hello there!

Hello, Everyone!

My name is Julie. I’ve been married for seventeen years to my hubby and we have a fifteen year old son. I decided to start this blog because guess what? I’ve hit 150lbs lost on Weight Watchers today! Woo hoo!

Let me tell you it’s been a long almost-two year journey and I’ve learned a lot since I first walked into my Weight Watchers meeting room.

Here’s a short recap of my journey:

Ever since I had my son fifteen years ago, I’ve been battling with my baby weight that just never seemed to come off. It’s always been an off-and-on again type of thing. I’ve always been fluffy, but after I hit 40, my weight just seemed to pile on, and I felt powerless to do anything about it. I didn’t stress out too much, though, and I just swept away my creeping weight gain with a nothing-to-look-at-here-just-go-about-your-day attitude.

It wasn’t until May of 2013, when I was having a Memorial Day BBQ with my family that the button on my then size 28 jeans popped across the room when I sat down. No one said a word and my husband broke the silence by saying that I should stop buying such cheaply made pants and buy some good ones. My mother found me a safety pin, and the party went on as usual.

The next day, my husband took me to what I referred to as my phat store, Cato (which was the ONLY store which carried clothes that fit me) to get the next size of jeans. It was crystal clear that my pants were not cheaply made, they just no longer fit me.

Imagine my surprise when I asked the clerk where the size 30 jeans were at and she stared at me with a blank expression. She explained as delicately as she could that the store only went up to a size 28.

That was it, my Rock Bottom Moment. I thanked her and left the store, glad for the safety pin that helped keep my pants in place. It was at that moment that I knew I had to do something to lose weight; I just didn’t know what. For a week, I ran around aimlessly reading into whatever diet seemed to be most popular at the time.

But then my brother told me he had tried Weight Watchers in the past and it had really worked for him, but he left it when the program changed their points plan and he hadn’t gone back for whatever reason.

I did some research online and it all seemed too good to be true. Eat anything you want and still lose weight? How could that be? Was there some diet pill or powder (been there done that) I had to take? No?

I was very apprehensive, but on June 3, 2013 I walked into my very first WW meeting. There were several people there, many of them my people, fluffy and fabulous, but others who weren’t at all. I wondered what they were doing there. They looked great and thin! What was going on?

During the course of the meeting, I found out these amazing people were Lifetimers – or those who had reached their weight loss goals and were there for maintenance. I was floored; and I started to really believe the program could actually work.

After the meeting, I met with the WW Leader, Marie, who told me all the basics of the plan and answered all my questions about nutritional labels, portion control, and daily points allowance. I was skeptical. It all sounded so easy and there were no powders or pills to take (except my choice of multivitamin), but I decided I had nothing to lose and I forged on ahead, armed with the newfound knowledge of points and power foods. With my cell already loaded with the WW app, I was ready to go.

I followed everything on the plan diligently and I almost fainted the next Monday, June 10, 2013, when I went to weigh in. I had lost 9.2 lbs in one week! It was then that I knew I had found the right place to not only lose weight, but get healthier in the process.

So what do you say; care to join me on my WW journey to my goal weight? I’m almost there. If you do, I’ll show you about the WW program and some of my favorite foods I cook up using the lowest points amount possible, plus I’ll share some of my favorite planning and organizing tips to keep you on track.

So come on; let’s get started!
